Chapter 6

As this reoccurring feeling of hope rises and falls once again, how might the emotional toll of events be affecting Salva in the long term of surviving the war?  What is implied by "A cold fist seemed to grip Salva's heart" after Uncle says he is sorry to Salva?  Why would might he feel this way?

  1. It could be affecting him emotionally because his family is gone all he has is a uncle that he handed seen for 2 years do to the army. Cold fist means a surprise or something unexpected for salva. I think he would feel like that because something hap end to his friend.

  2. I think what the story means by "a cold fist seemed to grip Salva's heart" I think that might mean that there is someone that is going to hurt him because when Salva's uncle said "I'm sorry" that means that maybe he let someone get to him or something, Because maybe Salva's uncle didn't see the person or animal in time. And I think that what the question is saying is that Salva gets his hopes up but then they fall as they get into danger or something happens to scare him or worries him, like when he met his uncle be had hope that he would know where his family is or his father because he was sent with all the men but his hopes went down when Salva's uncle said "Where is your family?" and that means Salva's uncle doesn't know where his family is so his hopes go down because he hoped that he knew where his family was. And i think for his emotional/feelings for surviving the war is that, he might be happy to survived cause he wants to see his family again, For example when he saw his uncle he had hope but when he found out his uncle didnt know where his family is, and his friend is not lost.

  3. In my opinion,"A cold fist seemed to grip Salva's heart" means Salva feels very sad or down. Uncle says sorry to Slava because something happened to Salva's friend, he's hurt or he's dead. Salva's uncle would feel sorry because he knows that Salva and his friend are very close and he knows that Salva would be hurt. The emotional toll of events affecting Salva in the long term of surviving the war by making him feel happy and then sad, so his hopes go up and his hopes go down.

  4. Salava hope will effect the battle for survival in many ways. one reason is because up to this point salvas hope has risen and then it has fallen . If salva loses all of hopes hope in finding his family he just given or he might not care if he lives or dies. When the author wrote a cold fist seemed to grip salvas heart i think that meant that salva has already lost his hope and now that his uncle has gave him the news he feels hopeless and that his heart probably has no love in it anymore it all just diapered. Salva must feel hopeless because he probably lost his friends and he has no family there with him except for his uncle.

  7. I think that the grip in his heart is that he feel like something bad happened to someone or something. I think that his help has gone up then down then up once more. the emotion is that when bad thing happen some how some way it becomes good.

  8. I think that " A cold fist seemed to grip Salva's heart" mean Salva is felling very sad and unhappy. When Salva's uncle said sorry to Salve because of something that happened to Salva's friend, I think that Salva felt very bad and I think Salve thought that maybe his friend is hurt or died. Salva's uncle felt sorry for Salva he know how Salva don't have any friends and he is the only one in the group that Salva knows.

  9. He might feel that Maraul is dead or seriously hert or injured. When he gripped his heart that means that he is angry sad. He keeps on getting his hope up then it all goes Down the drain, Again when he finds out about another terrible thing happend

  10. These things that happen are killing his hope. When you have hope, you have enough power to accomplish the things you want to. Like Salva you might fail if these bad things keep happening.

He feels sad when uncle tells him that because the word cold means sad. This is a situation of hope crashing. I would feel a little down, but feel a little hope as well. I am a risk taker and don't want to fail.

  11. This affects Salva by the rise and fall because he found his uncle, but doesn't know where his family is. Another rise is his uncle has a gun to shoot animals with and the fall is something happened to his friend. This will affect him by making him in panic mode and not seeing his family again. The other times, like when they get food he will feel like it will work out.

After Salva's uncle tells him sorry his friend might work for the evil group the rebels. Or the rebels found him and took him away. Or a lion got him from from smelling the food.
